Finding where you are now

by admin on January 30, 2013

It doesn’t really matter what kind of tools you use to figure out where you are / how your website is doing. You also shouldn’t stress over it. You don’t really want to track it daily unless you’re working on optimizing a pay per click campaign. What you do want to do is track changes over time.

Every weekend we take an hour or so and go over our analytics. We use a spreadsheet. I’ll give you some links a little later that offer some free spreadsheets, but it really isn’t rocket science.

You want to make sure you’re tracking –

Visits, Unique visitors, pages views, bounce rate, new visits. You can get all those from the first page of your Google analytics account.

You want to look at where your traffic is coming from. Click traffic Sources / All traffic. You can check out how these are increasing or decreasing.

You also want to check out your conversions and how much money your making.

The main thing you want to do is get a few weeks / months of data, that way you’ll be able to tell how your site is trending.

Here are some links you can check out –

A good site with a bunch of different tools –

I really like marketing experiments – they have a good list of some testing tools (and others).

A good pay per click ad campaign spreadsheet.
